Details

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Laurentian University to be your virtual interns, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one or more projects of your choosing over the internship period, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools.

Students in this program will cover topics in data management including peer-to-peer data sharing, data integration, and data exchange, data cleansing, data provenance, data quality, data mining and uncertain data

Students would be available for 180 hours for an internship. These students are looking for both paid and unpaid internships with a preference for paid experiences. Please indicate in your project submission which you are able to offer.

Deliverables

Deliverables will vary depending on the scope of the internship. However, these deliverables must be discussed and agreed upon prior to the start of the internship. An example might be data analysis and prediction of different parameters.

Project Examples

Data Mining and Machine Learning for practical applications in healthcare, computer vision, text analysis, sports, stocks, etc.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

Data Mining/Data Science

  • Data cleaning and munging
  • Building dashboard or reports
  • Generating automated report

Machine Learning

  • Application of mathematical models to computers
  • Prediction of discrete values, trends, and classifications
Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the internship program to review the project scope.

Provide ongoing support and mentorship to students throughout the internship. Students will interact virtually with their primary contact no less than once a week.
