I am an experienced communications professional with a background in administration and digital marketing. Previously I've held positions in the nonprofit sector, namely with Ronald McDonald House Charities and the Humane Society.
Over the years I have volunteered with organizations like Canadian Blood Services, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, and the United Way. Prior to that I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and obtained a Graduate Certificate in Public Relations while working in my college’s Marketing department.
I joined the Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance (CCHA) Board in 2019, and am a CHD patient with ALCAPA.

Public Health Education and Awareness of CHD
Project Summary Research and make recommendations around improving equity and access for people living with CHD (Congenital Heart Disease) in Canada. Project Scope Gather stakeholder input in order to determine highest priority issues. Research funding needs to support children and adults living with CHD. Project Objective Work with members and stakeholders to research and make policy recommendations for government and allied organizations aimed at promoting health equity and minimizing inequality in the CHD population. Recommendations need to consider social determinants of health that influences these issues and make recommendations to mitigate these issues. Create innovative and evidence-based digital tools and communication strategies that target multidisciplinary stakeholders May include but not limited to PSA, awareness video, clinic resources, health promotion plan, a stakeholder Other duties the student may complete could include: Social media campaign and/or marketing materials, or digital products/resources. Identification of key stakeholder groups that could be targeted, outline mechanisms to change trends and behaviour around these issues to maximize awareness and boost advocacy.

Virtual Internship Opportunity - Public Awareness of CHD w/ Indigenous Lens
Summary Create innovative and evidence-based digital tools and communication strategies that target stakeholders and are aimed at promoting health equity in the Congenital Heart Disease population. Project Scope Our organization is able to offer a virtual internship opportunity for 1-2 students or one team. Project Objective Research existing cases where support was obtained from key stakeholders for maximizing advocacy of a medically compromised population, pinpoint how to leverage fundraising efforts. This could be a CHD (Congenital Heart Disease) health promotion plan with a First Nations lens, a stakeholder development plan, or an awareness piece via website and social media. This may include: ● Research the needs of Indigenous CHD patients and how to best provide support. ● Explore and evaluate existing advocacy methods and determine which would best serve the CCHA community. ● Research current services provided to priority population (Indigenous CHD patients) and determine what is lacking and how to better promote the cause with tools such as; Advocacy materials to influence decisions within political, economic, and social institutions High-level education resources Infographic on existing interventions or supports for CHD population Resources for CHD patients; checklist, quiz, PDF. presentation, etc Recruiting material/Partnerships; outreach to First Nation communities or doctors Video creation Web page creation White Paper creation ● Create a Document, Web Page, or collection of Awareness materials to promote funding, partnerships, or advocacy efforts. Our goal at the end of this experience is: To create awareness around CHD and an evidence based communication strategy to deploy to either Indigenous CHD population, key stakeholders (or both). A fully developed tool to send to policy makers, potential sponsors, or high-level donors and stakeholders. Other duties the student may complete could include : Digital products and marketing materials, identification of groups that should be targeted, discovering how we can change the behaviour around this health topic to maximize awareness and boost advocacy. Summary You will source a Canadian company that has the ability to print, package, and ship merchandise direct-to-consumer using our logo and branding. This endeavor will become a new source of fundraising for our Charity. Company Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance (CCHA) The Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance (CCHA) is a national, volunteer-run registered charitable organization advocating on behalf of children and adults living with congenital heart disease (CHD). Mission: We advocate for and enrich the lives of people with CHD through awareness, education, research and support. Vision: To be the leading voice for enriching the lives of Canadians with CHD. Value Statement: Building a dedicated CHD community that fosters compassion, empowerment and collaboration. 1 in 100 babies are born with a congenital heart defect. Over 250,000 Canadians live with CHD. Sadly, there is no cure, many will require specialized, life-long cardiac care. At least half face the prospect of multiple surgeries and/or premature death, psycho-social challenges brought on by their condition, such as anxiety, depression, isolation and financial hardship. Fewer resources are available than other cardiac patients and CHD research is underfunded. Project Scope Our organization is able to offer an opportunity for 1-2 students or one team. Create a final recommendation or list of Top 3 companies that would best suit our needs, including: List their location, website, best contact person, contact information, price list, price ranges, options, available customizations, customer reviews, etc. Research Eco-friendly and ethically made options Create a cost analysis and identify pricing of items, profit amounts, etc. Compose messaging that will be used for a merch design contest Create accompanying graphics, and... Engaging social media posts for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter Email copy that will be sent to members to announce the merchandise design contest Webpage copy to help us display the new CCHA Merchandise Our goal at the end of this experience is: To end up with a recommendation for a reputable Canadian based printing and merchandise fulfillment company. Gain the ability to create more funding for CCHA through our very own line of merchandise. Engage our followers and members to participate in a Merch Design Contest where we will ultimately select a winner who will win the chance to have their design displayed on our new t-shirts. Maximize our fundraising results. Other duties the student may complete could include : Identify potential t-shirt printing services or merchandise suppliers that will enable us to sell t-shirts, tank tops, sweaters, bandanas, masks, stickers, etc. Create social media copy for the design contest CCHA will run on our platforms to implement a unique design from our members and community. Summary To develop all around branding options for our organization Project Scope Our organization is able to offer a virtual internship opportunity for a team of 1 to 5 students. Project Objective Our organization will be embarking on a website redesign and rebranding initiative. We are looking for updated options for our logo, educational resources and materials, website and social media and fundraising tools. We are also looking for assistance to better understand the impact and define our branding through market research of competitors and other non-profits for branding. 1. Create 3 branding options for logo a. Using current logo and colours (with background and history of logo) b. Update logo and colours c. Create completely new logo and colour scheme 2. Assist with development and modernization of website look and layout. Branding and colour scheme needs to work for website, social media and fundraising tools. Create a template/structure/guideline for social media posts. Need to ensure not infringing on other non-profit or corporate branding and logos. Our goal at the end of this experience is: Fully developed options for branded materials. Other duties the student may complete could include : Social media imaging and marketing, fundraising recommendations (programs or activities they may find during research that may be good fit for our organization)
